Bulldog Athletes of the Week 3/1/10

MALE ATHLETE:

LONYAE MILLER, FOOTBALL

No, Miller didn't have a 100 or 200-yard rushing day, let alone play a football game this past weekend. But he gets the nod for putting on a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday.

Miller ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at 221 pounds, which placed him in the top 10 among running back times. Even more impressive was his 26 reps on the bench press, which tied him for first along with Auburn's Ben Tate. He also didn't drop a single pass when being tested for catching ability out of the backfield.

Miller, who was once listed as the 19th best running back available according to draft experts, has had a strong off-season leading up to the draft that began with a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and his combine workout.

FEMALE ATHLETE:

JALEESA ROSS, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Ross may have only dropped only 13 points in the 95-77 rout against Boise State back on Saturday, but its a record she broke that gives her the title of female RZF athlete of the week.

Ross shattered the school record for most three pointers made in her career after going 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the victory. She now has 274 three pointers in her career.

"It is a great individual honor and she has many more records she can set, hopefully this is just one of them," Ross's head coach Adrian Wiggins said in a news release.
